Friday Fuel - December 11th, 2020
Welcome to all of the new Crashing Up family members who’ve joined since Monday. If you’re reading this but haven’t subscribed, make sure to do so here.
Hi friends,
Here’s your weekly shot of Friday Fuel, a collection of things that I’ve been learning from or enjoying recently.
📕What I’ve Been Reading: In the spirit of Airbnb’s successful IPO, here’s a 2015 blog post from co-founder Brian Chesky showcasing seven rejection emails the company received from high profile investors during their early fundraising efforts.
Even Brian was shocked to hear that the stock opened at double the IPO price.
His reaction is priceless…
🎧What I’ve Been Listening To: My good friend and Crashing Up subscriber PJ Walshe dropped “Mist,” the first single from Lighthouse, his new musical endeavor designed to support mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Not only is he insanely talented, but he’s a pretty good dude too. All streaming proceeds from the project will be donated to Mental Health America. If you’re looking for some new WFH tunes, something to relax to, or just a way to do some good in the world, I’d love if you give it listen.
🤯What’s Blown My Mind: There’s not much to say other than this is brilliant. While China has been using QR codes for a variety of functions (payments, advertising, social media) for years, it never fully picked up steam in the States. Thanks to Covid dining procedures, QR codes are finally having the moment they deserve.
This is a perfect way to use authenticity and influence to design an exciting and unique experience.
🧵A Thread I’ve Enjoyed: Everyone is talking about the future of remote work, yet no one really knows how it will shake out. While I personally can’t wait to get back to the office, a lot of people are happy kissing their commute goodbye for good.
This thread does a great job of echoing the sentiment of many of the predictions I’ve made in my newsletters over the last few months. A lot of great points here that, if true, will change the way we work and live forever.
🎤Quote I’ve Enjoyed: “People who want everything immediately get nothing at all.”
