Hi all👋,
Here’s your weekly intake of Friday Fuel, a collection of things that I’ve been learning from or enjoying recently.
📕What I’ve Been Reading - Email newsletters are on the rise. The launch of Substack alone has given birth to thousands of amazing newsletters. It’s from these that I draw inspiration and ideas to make Crashing Up the best it can be. Not Boring by Packy McCormick is one of my favorites, simply because it lives up to its name. He brings a fresh angle to business strategy, sprinkling in pop culture references in a conversational tone. All of the topics he covers are unique and would never be discussed by a legacy media outlet.
The Fantasy M&A editions are some of his best pieces. In these essays, he explores the potential mergers of household name companies, breaking down how their industries work, the competitive dynamics, product offerings, and strategy behind the decision. You can check out his most recent Fantasy M&A (on why Google should acquire Slack) here. I know writing a newsletter about another newsletter is pretty meta, but I promise this is worth subscribing to.
🎧What I’ve Been Listening To - Big Desk Energy. Not only is this playlist great for working from home, but the UX/UI of its site is amazing too. Seriously, this is one of the coolest websites I’ve ever seen. Why listen to a playlist on Spotify when you can listen and tap into some Windows 95 nostalgia?
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for the countless hours you spend playing Pong while procrastinating finishing that project that’s due by the end of the week.
🤯What’s Blown My Mind Part 1 -
Everyone has something that drives them. It could be a desire to prove themselves to others, motivation from past adversities, or solely money and fame. For two brothers from Germany, their success stemmed from an argument resulting in a rift between their respective families. Without this argument, two of the largest sneaker companies in the world would’ve never seen the light of day. Click below to learn more.
🤯What’s Blown My Mind Part 2 - It’s no secret that our nation struggles with income inequality. A portion of this can be attributed to unequal access to education and healthcare. Inaccessibility to these necessities isn’t only a result of the income gap, but also a cause of it. This is a dangerous cycle. It’s been said that an image speaks a thousand words, so I’ll let this chart speak for itself. We’ve got a lot of work to do.
🎤A Quote I Enjoyed -
Have a great weekend,
Randy
